"I strive to achieve a delicate balance of structure and flexibility while teaching lessons. The first lesson is spent creating specific long-term and short-term goals for each student. These goals, ranging in topic from technique to musicianship, provide a framework for our lessons, and keep the "bigger picture" present during our weekly time together.

Within the framework of each lesson there is abundant opportunity for creativity, exploration and play. Students learn to actively listen to their playing and assess their own progress. As students continue to study, inventive practicing is introduced: sometimes the best way to grow is to invent our own practice routines! Self assessment and discovery require a safe, collaborative space, and I aim to ensure that lessons are a comfortable, but challenging place for all students."
